Bailiffs - An Introduction
Aims and objectives:
The use of bailiffs for the collection and enforcement of debts is a popular option for a wide range of creditors. This course aims to provide advisers with an understanding of when and how bailiff action might be used and how seizure of goods might be avoided.
By the end of the course, participants should be able to:
- Identify debts enforceable by bailiff action
- Distinguish between different types of bailiffs
- Explain the general principles relating to seizure of goods
- Advise clients regarding the remedies available to them
- Use appropriate complaint procedures
- Explain the National Standards governing bailiffs
- Understand the proposed changes expected in the forthcoming Courts and Tribunals Bill.
