Local Authority Debt Recovery
Aims and objectives:
The aim of the course is to provide participants with an understanding of how Local Authorities operate in relation to debt collection, and the duties and responsibilities they have to their customers.
The objectives are to enable the participants to:
- Explain the role of local authorities and their various different structures
- Understand why local authorities are treated as priorities
- Discuss the possibilities of promoting corporate debt policies and using them to effect positive outcomes for clients
- Identify the duties and responsibilities local authorities have to their customers through their cohesive community and anti-poverty work and how it fits with debt collection
- Identify complaints mechanisms, including the Local Government Ombudsman
